Must See Session at This Year’s OOW

I’ve seen a lot of interesting posts about what’s going to be presented next week at OOW15, and I’ve blogged about those specific to Enterprise Manager previously – see the links Private Cloud and DBLM, Database Manageability and Middleware Management for more detail. But some people have come to me and said “There are so many sessions to go to for Oracle Open World, can you identify the must see session for what’s happening with Enterprise Manager?”

Well, to me, that’s a no brainer (and not just because the speaker is my Vice President! 🙂 ). It’s session# CON9708 “The Future Of Oracle Enterprise Manager: What’s Next?” Hopefully by now you should realize that Enterprise Manager is the nerve centre of Oracle Cloud. Our largest site within Oracle Cloud has more than two and half million assets being monitored, over 3.4 million events processed every day, ten thousand compliance evaluations per day and more than 2 million job executions every day, all handled by an EM12c environment. Now if we can do all that in EM12c, what’s coming in the next release that can top that?

In high level terms (because that’s all I’m allowed to talk at this point in time), the next major release has top new features including:

  • Zero Downtime Monitoring
  • Integrated Hardware and Software Management
  • Engineered Systems Patching
  • Improved Cloning for Hybrid Cloud

and much more. So if you’re interested in what’s coming across the board, this is the one to see.

One other thing to note is there has been a change from what I covered in the Private Cloud and DBLM blog post. The session titled “Supercharge Your DevOps Automation Using Oracle Enterprise Manager’s CLI and REST APIs [CON9731]” has been updated to a different abstract which should read:

Enterprise Manager provides the broadest and the most complete set of capabilities to build, deploy and manage the end-to-end lifecycle of the cloud, all from a single console. Learn how you can leverage the robust suite of REST APIs and CLIs to supercharge your DevOps Automation.

This session will review customer scenarios and live demos to outline primary reasons to leverage Cloud Pack APIs and explore functionality exposed by the APIs, including:

  • Integration with third-party portals and interfaces, including Service-Now, Service Mesh, vCAC;
  • Open Source Automation, such as Chef and Puppet; and
  • Orchestration from third-party and home grown systems, including blueprints and workflows.

Have fun at OOW and make sure to say hi to my VP for me! 🙂
